I’m always wary around scones to try and avoid the rock hard kind.  Turns out, Trader Joe’s blueberry scones are not only not hard, but are also more like a cookie due to their high butter content.  Yum!  But not in large amounts.  Then they start tasting gross.
Oh, and that lemon curd (that I was going to eat) is just a prop since it was expired…and not the “it’s still okay” expired.

I made this blueberry bread again with leftover frozen berries.  I had pecans this time, which was an improvement.  There’s no picture, but it was also delicious with chocolate chips (I was craving the bread in the second picture).  I set aside some blueberry-free batter for a small loaf pan, and stirred in some mini chocolate chips.

The last of the food from the blueberry harvest!  These are crumb-top blueberry muffins from Williams-Sonoma.  Best blueberry muffins ever.  I’m too lazy to type it out from my book, so I found you the recipe here!Things I changed:
Sprinkled raw sugar on top instead of the streusel
Used lemon zest instead of orange
And just a note, I ended up with 24 regular-sized muffins, whereas the recipe claims it makes 10!

Blueberry pie fail.I was trying to use up the bucketfuls of blueberries we had, so I added extra to the pie.  But…I forgot that extra blueberries = extra sugar and thickening agents needed!  So I ended up with a sour runny soup pie.  Derp.  Once I cut a slice I lifted up the top crust and sprinkled sugar on top.  It was much more edible that way.

Blueberry Buckle, made during the blueberry harvest.  It was delicious, but next time I might try it without the streusel on top (which melted into one solid layer).  The extra sugar and butter were good, but with such a small cake (look how short it is!) it was unnecessary and a bit overpowering.  A sprinkle of cinnamon sugar or some raw sugar would work just fine…well, in theory.  Recipe from the Joy of Cooking.

Seeing red…

All weekend I’ve been helping to destem and quarter strawberries from the backyard.

Strawberries with vanilla yogurt, with ice cream, strawberry milkshakes, on their own…and, strawberry shortcake, here I come!  And not with that yucky store bought sponge cake, nopers!  After the strawberries have run their course, it’ll be time to pick blueberries in the sweltering heat while being poked in the eyes by gnats.  Yay.  (But, just think about all the blueberry streusel muffins and blueberry pancakes you will be able to make!)

In other news, after a 1 hour walk/jogging session around the neighborhood this morning, my hips are too sore to walk up the stairs, my legs feel like lumpy jello, and I’m developing a blister.  I really don’t like summer.  Exercise in the summer means getting 100% drenched in sweat, and humidity + me = permanent greasy face.

Maybe it’s time for some strawberry nomming :]

Blueberry crisp!  I had some frozen homegrown berries that needed to be used (I’ve been drinking blueberry smoothies here and there as well, yum!).  Recipe from Williams-Sonoma.

Care for a slice of mediocre pie?  Tart with lemon curd and blueberries.  Just eh.

My mom need to bring a sweet bread for one of her social gatherings, so I made my favorite blueberry muffin recipe, but baked it in mini loaf pans.  It worked out pretty well!Recipe here: http://tinyurl.com/22uqoww
